Cleaning Persian Rugs & Color Correction in Southeast Idaho

Persian rugs require a bit more care, but they are more than worth the effort to keep them beautiful. One of the best ways to keep a clean rug is to keep it from getting dirty in the first place. Make sure to remove your outdoor shoes when entering the house, as bare feet or at least feet that are clad in socks are much gentler than the hardened soles of an outdoor shoe, or a spiked heel. There is the added bonus that by keeping your outdoor shoes at the front door, the less dirt your house will have.

Professional Persian Rug Cleaning

To properly clean your rug, make sure that the rug truly needs to be cleaned--and this may mean a yearly cleaning, at most.

Check your Rug

To check if your rug needs cleaning, try out one of these methods:

Get a corner of the rug and kick the back of it. If a large cloud of dirt comes flying out of the pile, then the rug is definitely dirty and in need of a good cleaning. If there's some dust and wool fibers, but not an excessively large amount, then that's perfectly normal.

Schedule a FREE Estimate

We offer a FREE on site inspection and estimate for carpet & upholstery cleaning services.

Kneel on the rug and rub with the palm of your hand for about 5 to 10 seconds. If your hand is dirty, then the rug needs cleaning.

For Food Spills/Pet Urine

These are some of the most common spills you can experience with rugs, with urine being the most severe. It can cause color runs in the rug and the odor can be difficult to get rid of, or disguise. Chemically, urine makes the foundation harder and less supple, and worst of all, the presence of pet urine can attract moths. If there are repeated wettings for the rug, the foundation can loosen and the rug could crack or break when gently rolled or folded.

For food spills, it's easier to deal with if you clean it up promptly, before the spill is ever allowed to completely dry on the rug. Blot up as much liquid as you can with either paper towels or clean cloth, and then try to rinse out as much as you can.

Pet stool/Regurgitation

When a pet regurgitates on a rug, then you're looking at a more complicated job. It truly depends on the food, but the mixture can work as a dilute dye in order to stain the pile a completely different hue.

Clean up the area immediately and pick up as much foreign materials as you can with paper towels or clean cloths. If necessary, you can use a dustpan to scrape up the rest, but make sure not to manipulate it too much: this can just lead to the stain spreading even more than required.

Whatever happens, don't clean with bleach on Persian rugs, as this can remove the color from your Persian carpet.
